COMPANIONS  by Jeffrey Kent Simpson

'Companions' is a fast paced sociological study written in autobiographical style about masculine development and sexual choices. It follows a man from his birth in southern Alberta at the time of the Great Depression, to his elder years in the Davie Village area of Vancouver, British Columbia.  The story is unusual and is not suitable for minors.

From Stephen Morrissey, Canadian poet:

The book is called 'Companions' and that is what it is about; a true tour de force in the manner of a Whitmanic 'I sing the body electric.' It reminds me, also, of Allen Ginsberg's injunction to 'scribble down the nakedness of the soul, because it is the nakedness of the soul that people are really interested in reading.'

It is a very brave book, brave because it evokes very strong feelings in many readers, especially about their sexuality, and Jeffrey challenges this.
