VINCENT VAN GOGH

The authenticated photo and the famous self-portrait of Vincent van Gogh tell different stories for different times of his life.

According to Wikipedia and numerous other sources, Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in Zundert, The Netherlands. I do not know the time of his birth (Does anyone?) so I have set his heliogram for noon local time, the half-way point for the planets in the Earth's diurnal cycle. His history makes for very interesting reading and is widely available on the internet so I will not go into the details here.  The end of his story is not a happy one; Vincent van Gogh shot himself on July 29, 1890 in a field outside Auvers sur Oise, France and ended his life.

Shown below is the heliogram of Vincent van Gogh. It is a BUTTERFLY type heliogram with two STELLIUMS and a T-SQUARE.

The two wings of the 'butterfly' are easily seen in this heliogram. MErcury, EArth, and JUpiter compose the wing on the right and the other six planets compose the wing on the left.  One stellium is composed of NEptune, VEnus, and MArs and the other stellium is composed of PLuto, URanus, and SAturn.

The T-square is composed of an opposing aspect from Mercury to Mars-Venus-Neptune with all four planets in square aspect to Jupiter.

At the time of his death van Gogh was experiencing a rare transit from a Neptune+Pluto conjunction sitting in the empty leg of his natal T-square, forming a Grand Cross by transit. The transiting Neptune+Pluto conjunction was in opposing aspect to natal Jupiter and in square aspect to the Neptune, Venus, Mars natal stellium and also in square aspect to natal Mercury.

The conjunction of transiting Neptune and transiting Pluto is a rare event. It did not happen in the 20th century and will not happen in the 21st century. Pluto has a 248 year and Neptune a 165 year orbital cycle around the sun so as transiting planets they only catch up to one another every 500 years. From the study of many life events in clients I have worked with I learned that the conjunction of transiting Neptune to natal Pluto usually manifests as a depression drenched transformative state of mind for the individual concerned. Van Gogh took that transformation to the extreme when he shot himself.
